Abstract
Marine energy is now being considered as one of the solutions for mitigating climate change. As marine energy produces electricity from the sea, it is more safe and clean, free of carbon emission, fossil fuel depletion, etc. Wave power, tidal power, tidal current energy, salinity gradient energy, and Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) belong to marine energy. However, marine energy is generally not competitive than offshore wind and solar due to the low maturity level. Therefore it is also having difficulty in attracting investments from the private enterprise. Therefore national policy support is needed to overcome the above challenges. Thus, this paper examines the marine energy technology, national law, and policy to present future development direction by comparing China and Korea’s situation.
