Ulleungdo·Dokdo Ocean Science Station
울릉도·독도해양연구기지The Ulleungdo·Dokdo Ocean Science Station opened in Hyeonpo, Ulleungdo in 2014 as part of Gyeongsangbuk-do’s comprehensive measures to protect Dokdo. The Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST), a government-funded research institute, is in charge of consignment operation with the mission of protecting the maritime sovereignty of Dokdo with science and technology and promoting the marine fishery industry of Ulleungdo and Dokdo. Its main tasks are monitoring changes in the marine ecosystem in the surrounding waters of Ulleungdo and Dokdo, preserving the marine ecosystem, increasing marine fishery resources in Ulleungdo and Dokdo, aquaculture, and fostering high value-added marine industries. In addition, main missions include support for academic research on-site and maritime territory education, such as the operation of the Dokdo Special Purpose Visitor Support Center for the support and systematic management of domestic Dokdo academic research institutions, the operation of the Ulleungdo/Dokdo Marine Ecology Center and the Ulleungdo Marine Protected Area Visitor Center.
일본 시마네현의 다께시마의 날 조례 제정에 대응하여 경상북도의 독도 수호 종합 대책 일환으로 2014년에 울릉도 현포에 개소한 해양연구기관으로, 과학기술로 독도 해양영토 주권을 수호하고 울릉도 독도 해양수산업 진흥을 임무로 정부출연연구기관인 한국해양과학기술원(KIOST)이 위탁운영을 맡고 있다. 울릉도·독도 주변해역 해양생태계 변동 감시 및 해양생태계 보전, 울릉도·독도 해양수산자원 증·양식 및 고부가가치 해양산업 육성 등 연구업무와 함께 국내 독도 학술연구기관의 지원 및 체계적 관리를 위한 독도특수목적입도객지원센터 운영, 울릉도·독도 해양생태관 및 울릉도 해양보호구역 방문자센터 운영 등의 학술연구 현장 지원 및 해양영토교육 수행 등을 주요 임무로 하고 있다.
