Abstract
- We used Bioaccumulation Evaluation Screening Tool (BEST) and Trophic Trace® software embedded in USACE Bioaccumulation Risk Assessment Modeling System (BRAMS) to assess the potential risk posed to the local population by the pollutants in the hypothetical sediments. Conceptual food web model was constructed for red sea bream (Pagrus major) and hairtail (Trichiurus lepturus) to calculate the human health risk by consuming these fishes dwelling on hypothetical sediments. We also used USEPA Guidance for Assessing Chemical Contaminant Data for Use in Fish Advisories to calculate the risk. Our approach using BRAMS in conjunction with other relevant guidance proved to be very useful to asses human health risk posed by consuming fish living in the contaminated sediment because the accumulation of pollutants in organisms vary with surrounding environmental conditionsthe hypothetical sediments.
