dc.description.abstract Ulleung back-arc basin is one of the three major basins in the East Sea (Sea of japan) with sedimentary depisits of thickness about 4 km. Shallow gas/Gas hydrates occurrenc were investigated in the Ulleung basin by using side scan sonar, high-resolution sub-bottom seismic profilers and sediment cores. Extensive occurrenc of pockmardks, Acoustic Turbid Zones, gas seepages were observed in the sonar images and seismic profiles. in many deeper areas of Ulleung basin, the gas found mixed withe the sediments, which also observed in X-radiographs, as degassing cracks in the sediment core samples of length about 10-12 m. -
