dc.description.abstract Series of laboratory experiments were performed to understand the flocculation processes of cohesive sediment under shear-free turbulence to investigate the effects of turbulence intensity on settling speed of the flocs. One-dimensional model is solved numerically to calculate the evolution of the suspended sediment concentration at different levels. The vertical variation of turbulence characteristics is modeled from grid oscillation characteristics and vertical distance from the oscillating grid following previous investigators, and is used in the simulation of the suspended sediment concentration at different level. The characteristic of dependence of the turbulence intensity on the settling speed of flocs are shown and are compared with experimental results of other investigators performed in the rotating flume. -
