dc.description.abstract The design automation system is a software to be programed according to present design standard and is used by a harbor engineer as an expert system to evaluate a design criteria. According to a questionnaire of this on-going project, there is good chance of making this system developed and highly demanded in the future and a practical tactic is set up to make the system more useful. The design system is consist of two parts: a basic design and execution design of a harbor structure. When the minimum and necessary input for the system is given, the program calculates both resisting weight and external forces of the structure and then carries out the structure stability check. After the stability check the program calculates design moments exerted on all the members of a structure. To design the reinforcement members, an interactive interface to select types of steel and layouts is used for having enough resisting moments. Finally the system make all the necessary drawings based on the proposed design. -
