dc.description.abstract In the course of our screening program of algicidal bacteria, we isoloated a marine bacterium, Bacillus subtillis SY-1, which had potent algicidal activity against Cochlodinium polykridoides during the termination of bloom by C. polykrikodes in Masan Bay of Korea. Bioassay-guided purification of algicidal compounds was conducted by determining the algicidal activity against C. polykrikodes. Fractionations by solvent partitioning, ODS open column chromatography, and purification with a reversed-phase HPLC gave three pure algicidal compounds. These compounds were identified as mycosubtilin type algicies by 2D NMR techniques and MS data. -
