dc.description.abstract In this study, we aim to assess qualitative environmental risk of organic pollutant in Gwangyang Bay, one of industrialized bays in Korea and prioritize potent toxic chemicals and areas in the bay. Organic pollutants in surface sediments were analyzed in the bay to evaluate the extent contamination. In addition, bioassays, including cytotoxicity of oyster hemocyte, estrogenicity screening of yeast transformant, mixed function oxygenase activity of fish liver, imposex in marine snail, were applied to assess to monitor effects on marine organisms. Among the target toxicants, PAHs, alkylphenols, and tributyltin demonstrated significant relationship with one of bioassays. The inner central part of Gwangyang Bay around Myodo area including surrounding creeks could be area concern for PAHs and Alkylphenols, on the other hand, the area of concern could be expanded from inner to outer part of the bay for tributyltin. However, quantitative risk assessment for these chemicals is required for risk management of the bay. -
