dc.description.abstract A bacterial strain (Novosphingobium pentaromativorans US6-1) could degrade various high molecular weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) was isolated from marine sediments. However, biodegradation of PAHs contaminated in the marine sediments by single strain has many limitations. To overcome those limitations, a series of experiment has been conducted to construct superior microbial consortium. As a result of sequential screening of strains among the PAHs degraders and resin compounds degraders, a strain from PAHs degraders (PAH2) and another one from resin degraders (YSR9) were selected to construct consortium with strain US6-1. To optimize the construction ratio of strains, degradation rate of mixture of PAHs (a, b, c, d, e) coated on alumina was assessed depend on the composition ratio of strains. Among the experimental set, a consortium consisted of US6-1:PAH2:YSR9 = 2:1:1 was showing utmost degradation rate of spiked PAHs. The applicability of the established consortium will be tested in the large-scale bioslurry reactor. -
