Abstract
Abstract : Typhoon 0314(Maemi), passed in the southern coast of Korea, caused a severe storm surge and high waves during a high spring tide in the Busan New Harbor construction area. Waves higher than the design wave height and maximum surge were concurrently occurred at the high water level. It caused the most catastrophic coastal flood on the southern coast of Korea during last 50 years. The storm surges were calculated by using a non-linear long wave equation model. They are generally in good agreement with the measured data. Flooding and damages of construction site and dikes are analyzed using the calculated surge and wave data. The coastal flood for the Yongwon coastal area in the New Harbor was simulated using numerical models of the storm surge and storm water management (SWMM) with tidal information in time series. The results were compared with measured water level data at shore station. Inundation of coastal area in Yongwon was reasonably well simulated
