Abstract
Weekly changes in zooplankton abundance and species composition were monitored from January to December 2004 (n=49) in order to understand which factors control the abundance and succession at a station in Jangmok Bay. The examined zooplankton was classifying in 42 groups and a total of 18 species of copepod belonging to 12 genera were appeared during the study period. Zooplankton abundance ranged from 712~36,609 ind./m3 in survey period. Zooplankton showed higher abundances in winter and summer, and lower abundances in spring and fall. Copepod and Noctiluca scintillans were dominant in winter and summer, respectively. As to consider frequency and abundance, Noctiluca scintillans, copepod Paracalanus indicus, Acartia omorii, Acarita erythraea, Centropages abdomianalis, cladoceran Penilia avirostris, Podon leucarti, Evadne tergestina, Evadne nordmanni, chaetognatha Sagitta crassa, Sagitta enflata, appendicularia Oikopleura spp. larva cirripedia nauplii were major species. Appearance of these species was clear with a season. In this study, it showed that succession of zooplankton was mainly happened by a water temperature change and abundance of zooplankton was closely related to phytoplankton biomass. Also, unbalance of copepod sex ratio will probably have an influence on succession.
