Abstract
The Arctic region plays an important part of the Earth's environments such as weather, climate, circulation of the ocean, and so on. Many scientific stations at the Svalbard archipelago have been established and operated for the natural environment and resource. Recently, Korea also constructed research station at Ny-Alesund, Spitsbergen island in Svalbard. In this paper, gravity characteristics and the Moho undulations of Svalbard archipelago, located at the edge of western Eurasian plate, were studied and calculated by using ArcGP and GTOPO30 data. The correlations between topography and free-air gravity anomalies show that the isostasy of continents attains a little less than that of marine. After terrain correction, complete Bouguer gravity anomalies increase from continent to marine, which are deeply connected with the rise of Moho discontinuity. After applying band-pass filter by cutting frequency, which was determined by Power spectrum analysis, the high and low residual anomalies are shown at fault zone in the continent and thick sedimentary layer at continental slope in the marine, respectively. Moho undulations, which were calculated by 3D inversion modeling, show typical characteristic of continental margin region and good coherence with conventional 2D crustal structure models which achieved by seismic surveys.
