dc.description.abstract Realtime observation is a necessary element for the operational ocean prediction system. To implement a Yellow sea Observation and Operation System (YOOS), Korea and China have agreed recently on the installation of the Joint Korea-China Yellow Sea Buoy in the middle of the Yellow Sea. In addition, both country decided to exchange the data observed at China buoy No. 15 in the northern part of the Yellow Sea and those at Ieodo scientific station in the southern part of the Yellow Sea. Nevertheless, the debate on the pin-point location of this joint buoy has risen to the surface between the two countries since there are complex viewing angle on this matter which is related mainly with the politics. Though both authorities have signed that the location should be the most suitable site for scientific observation of the Yellow Sea phenomena and it should have no jurisdiction over the marine territory for each country, it is inevitable that some of them have reluctance on that the location could be used as a political bait. Thus, in this presentation, we tried to select one of the best candidate purely based on the scientific matter in the Yellow Sea. Those various oceanographic phenomena in the Yellow Sea we considered are :- the bottom topography and sediments characteristics- atmospheric characteristics- ocean current and water mass distribution- tide and tidal current- existing observational stations and network.- Satellite observed sea surface temperature and altimetry trackWe cautiously propose a pin-point location which is surely independent of each country's political interest. It is one of the crossover point of the Topex/Poseidon and Jason-1 in the middle of the Yellow Sea. We expect many of critics and suggestions to elaborate this scientific foundation. -
