dc.description.abstract Fly ash showed promising results in contaminants sorption, soil improvement, neutralization of acidic waste water. Especially, fly as could be applied in contaminant barrier. For a successful application of such contaminant barrier, real-time monitoring of soil and groundwater around waste containment sites is required to ensure that the barrier is containing the waste effectively. In this study, column experiments were conducted to examine the variation of electrical conductivity on heavy metal contaminant migration and then electrical conductivity breakthrough and effluent concentration breakthrough curves were simultaneously obtained and their shapes were described for verifying their effective detection. This result indicated that heavy metal migration was detected in a center of sample by the rapid increase of electrical conductivity with inflow of contaminant solution. On the basis to such result it will be expected that electrical conductivity measurement has a potential applicability in detecting contaminant migration within containment barrier. -
