dc.description.abstract Estimation of time required for landfill stabilization and detection of landfill leachate leakage have been a difficult task to be performed in Korea due to the lack of data from internal landfill investigation and long-term monitoring. Therefore, it is important to obtain data from long-term monitoring of landfills and develop leachate leakage sensing system on this basis for integrated management of landfills. In this study, a novel real time monitoring system was developed and evaluated for field application. The system is composed of two parts; (1) a set of moisture sensors which monitor the areas surrounding the landfill, and (2) a set of moisture and temperature sensors which monitor the landfill interior. Field model tests were performed to develop the grid-net landfill leachate leakage detection system using electrical conductivity. Finally, with this real time monitoring and leachate leakage detection system the domestic landfill stabilization rate is suggested. Furthermore, it allows comparison of the standards used for landfill stabilization in other countries. -
