dc.description.abstract Characterizing spatial uncertainty of soil property, which commonly occurs during site investigation, data analysis and transformation modeling, is one of most important variables at geotechnical designing stage. In this paper geotechnical uncertainty of shear strength indicator Nk has been quantified using geostatistical Kriging method at the marine clay site. The key data used here are cone penetration test results obtained from fields, and the geotechnical properties to the cone factor Nk, which is a main factor to estimate the undrained shear strength, are evaluated by geostatistical method, and compared with those obtained by classical statistical analysis. From these, it is found that geostatistical Kriging method is an ideal tool to quantify the spatial variability of uncertainty from self-correlation of soil property, and also it is recommended to use Kriging method for identifying the spatial distribution of undrained shear strength at any other interesting sites. -
