dc.description.abstract The results of comparative study on the hydraulic characteristics of the seawater exchange system including an artificial island type waterpool are presented. Laboratory experiments of the same length scale were carried out in a wave flume and in a wave tank for regular and irregular waves of different wave heights and periods with the cross-sectional and planar models of the seawater exchange system. The wave reflection was higher in the planar test due to the inability of measuring the wave reflection from the preexisting breakwater behind the overflow structure in case of the cross-sectional model test. Besides wave reflection, a fairly good agreement in other physical quantities, such as water inflow intensity, water surface elevation in the waterpool, was observed from the results of the both experiments. -
