dc.description.abstract Sea surface heights data along Korean Peninsula, operated by National Oceanographic Research Institute, were used to extract abnormal sea states. The influence of tidal records length and tide analysis methods on calculations of surge are compared using tidal records at Masan and Yeosu during typhoon Maemi and Ewiniar with harmonic method and response method. Maximum surge height calculated from 1 hour data were considerably underestimated compared with 1 minute data, giving a misleading result. An extended response method with 1 month record gives almost same accuracy of harmonic method with 1 year record. It might be a good alternative for tidal prediction when 1 year record is not available, shown in Masan during Ewiniar -
