Abstract
A mesotrophic bacterium, strain SPO729T, was isolated from marine sponge collected in tropical area, Chuuk Island, Micronesia. Cells were Gram negative, non-spore forming, motile and rod-shaped (3.92- 6.08㎛  0.25-0.36㎛). Growth was observed between 15 and 46℃ (optimum 34℃), at pH 5.0-8.5 (optimum 6.0-6.5) and in the presence of 2.0-7.0% (optimum 3.5%) NaCl. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that strain SPO729T showed high similarity with members of the genus Microbulbifer, especially with M. maritimus TF-17T (96.8%), M.hydrolyticus DSM 11525T (95.9%), M. salipaludis SM-1T (96.2%), M .elongatus DSM 6810T (95.6%), and M. celer ILS-39 T (95.2%). The major respiratory quinone is (Q8). The DNA G+C contents was 57.9 mol%. The major fatty acids were i-15:0 (27.1%), i-17:1ω9 (12.1%), and i-17:0 (11.9%). From this polyphasic taxonomical evidence, strain SPO729T should be identified as a novel species in the genus Microbulbifer and proposed it as the name Microbulbifer pacificus sp. nov. The type strain is SPO729T (=KCCM 42667 T =JCM 14507T).
