dc.description.abstract Considering similarities between Baltic-North Sea and Yellow Sea, the Baltic-North Sea forecasting system can be used to enhance the capacity building Yellow Sea(represented by YOOS). Leading by DMI and KORDI, this cooperation has been initiated both in institutional level and ROOS level. In the institutional level, DMI has signed a MoU with NCSB-SOA on the cooperation for developing Yellow Sea forecasting system. DMI and KORDI have a contract in doing storm surge modelling in the Yellow Sea. An EU FP6 project YEOS (Yellow Sea Observation, forecasting and information system, 2007-2009) was officially launched 1st April 2007, with a duration of 30 months. Major ocean research centres from Denmark, Germany, China and Korea put up a joint force to establish a pre-operational Yellow Sea forecasting system. YEOS is an EU FP6 Specific Supported Action, which aims at technical transfer and international cooperation with developing countries, as a part of EU contribution to GEOSS. The goal of YEOS is to strengthen the GEOSS cooperation between EU and other key GEOSS players, by demonstrating benefits and building up confidence through a solid cooperation in national level (i.e., EU States-China-South Korea) and regional level (i.e., BOOS - Yellow Sea Operational Oceanographic System). A pilot demonstration website has been built by DMI to demonstrate the operational ocean prediction system for the Yellow Sea by implementing its operational forecasting system (incl. regional numerical weather model HIRLAM and coupled 3D ocean model BSHcmod) for the Yellow Sea area. Some preliminary results will be presented. The forecasting and information system will be demonstrated during Olympic Game 2008, to provide weather and marine environment forecast information for the Yellow Sea area. -
