dc.description.abstract In the East Sea, temperature and salinity profiles are being collected from ARGO floats since 2001, besides the conventionalobservations. Generally, ARGO floats provide one temperature and salinity profile at every 10 day interval. Some floats will have additional sensors (for example Dissolved Oxygen). The spatial distribution of ARGO observations was very sparse in 2001, which is the beginning of the ARGO program. Adding up the float deployments year by year, the data densityavailable in real-time increased, which offers new dimensions to access and monitor the ocean environment. Time to time spatial distribution of ARGO data observations in the East Sea is discussed, the horizontal and vertical features of temperature and salinity are analysed. The ARGO observations in real-time are relatively dense in the southwestern part of the East Sea around Ulleung Basin, less dense along the Japanese coast and a very few observations are available in the northern part of the East Sea. As part of the Operational Korea Ocean Prediction System (KOPS), ARGO data assimilation was done, the model results are compared with the actual ARGO observations and analysed. -
