Abstract
The cyanobacterium Spirulina has been commercially cultivated for production ofhuman food supplements, animal feed ingredient and pharmaceutical uses because of its ability to produce l quantities of variable product such as carotene, omega 3 and 6 polyunsaturated fatty acids. The large scale biomass production of Spirulina depends on many factors, the most important of which are nutrients availability, temperature and sunlight. The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of depth and shadow for large scale production of Spirulina maxima in a media where fertilized grade urea was the main source of nitrogen nutrient source.
