Abstract
The primary purpose of this paper is to quantify how much differences could be occurred by the various tidal conditions on the maximum storm surge heights around the Korean coasts. Along the Korean coasts the tidal ranges vary from few centimeters to 9 m. There might be differences of the storm surge depending on tidal conditions. Two storm surges, typhoons Maemi(2003) and Nari(2007) were recorded the maximum surge heights of about 2.1m (in Masan - flood tide) and 1 m (in Yeosu – ebb tide), respectively. Numerical experiments were explored to check the variations of the maximum storm surge heights with opposite tidal phases (e.g. in Masan with ebb tide and in Yeosu with flood tide). The results can be used to map the possible storm surge inundation zone.
