dc.description.abstract Korean seawater quality standards define the goals for a waterbody by designating its uses and setting criteria to protect those uses. Seawater quality criteria contain information on the allowable concentrations of specific chemicals or levels of parameters in seawater to protect the marine environment for the following use designations : Class 1 (bathing, habitats and aquaculture for sensitive marine species). Class 2 (leisure, habitats and aquaculture for other fishery resources) and Class 3 (Industrial use). Korean seawater quality criteria for human health suggest the maximum levels of 19 chemical parameters to reduce the risk to humans from these sources. The water quality criteria for rivers and lakes are maintained separately by the Ministry of the Environment. -
