dc.description.abstract Typhoon intensity variation and the oceanic responses over the Northwestern Pacific and the East Asian Marginal Seas have been investigated using an intermediately coupled ocean-typhoon system. This Coupled Simple Typhoon and Ocean Research Model (C-STORM) has been developed by coupling a simple typhoon intensity model based on the Emmanuel (1995) and a HYCOM based three-dimensional ocean circulation model which domain covers the East Asian Marginal Seas as well as the Northwestern Pacific. Currently the ocean circulation model has been spun-up under the climatological forcing.By carrying out a series of the sensitivity test on the sea surface temperature, mixed layer depth, the typhoon translation speed as well as the atmospheric background conditions, the typhoon intensity variation and the oceanic responses during the typhoon passage are investigated for the various ideal typhoon cases.For the verification of the model performance, observational evidences of the interaction between the typhoons Ewiniar 2006 and Nari 2007 and the East China Sea have been compared with the C-STORM simulation. -
