dc.description.abstract This paper tries to validate reliability based method of quaywall structure using foreign technical design standards and to investigate effect on reliability index to each random variable through sensitivity analysis. As results of estimating reliability indices, they harmonized with 1.416 both level II and III approaches in case of design I, and with 2.201 and 1.880, respectively, in case of design II at the critical load case. Thus we were able to know that Level II(FOSM) approach is good enough to use in practice. Generally, it was appeared that probabilities of failure for sliding and bearing capacity modes are higher and them for overturning mode are the lowest of main failure modes in the caisson type quaywall. From the sensitivity analysis, the random variables affecting extremely reliability index were coefficient of friction, residual water pressure and resistance moment for the sliding, overturning and bearing capacity modes, respectively. Especially, the sensitivity did not change greatly, in case of inertial force by seismic loads and dynamic water pressure having large COV and it agreed with existing research for the relation between COV and sensitivity. -
