Abstract
Axenic strain is very important for the advanced study of benthic diatoms as bacteria can play vital role by inserting their cellular materials to the chemical compositions of each benthic diatoms. Determination of the best growth condition would be the significant information for the mass culture of benthic diatom. The antibiotic cocktail with penicillin, streptomycin, and neomycin made the bacteria free diatoms. The highest standing crop of Navicula incerta was harvested in 20˚C water on day 12 after inoculation with the maximum specific growth rate of 0.88 d–1, 30 psu, and F/2 (100%) nutrient concentration. Cylindrotheca closterium showed the highest (7.20  104 cells mL-1) biomass production with the maximum specific growth rate of 0.82 d-1 in a condition of 20˚ C water with salinity of 30 psu and nutrients concentration of ‘F’ (200%). That highest (1.1 mg L-1) biomass production was from Achnanthes longipes and Nitzschia longissima. The protein, lipid and carbohydrate content were higher from Navicula sp. (c.f. viridula) than other diatoms which were followed by Amphora coffeaeformis and Nitzschia longissima, respectively. The ash content was over than 50% among the all benthic diatoms.
