dc.description.abstract This study aimed to understand phytoplankton and bacteria abundance in the Yellow Sea Cold Bottom Water (YSCB) in August 2009. The phytoplankton abundance showed similar patterns with chlorophyll a. The maximum cell abundance appeared 30-40m water depth. Surface and bottom layer showed low cell abundance. The bacteria was high cell abundance in surface layer (0.5-20m). The highest bacteria abundance (12.4×108 L-1) occurred at 10m water depth in 18:00. Temporal variation of phytoplankton and bacteria abundance showed different patterns. Bacteria abundance did not significantly correlate with phytoplankton (r2=0.23, p=0.13) in 15:00 time. But, there was high significant coefficient between phytoplankton and bacteria abundance in 18:00 and 21:00 times. Bacteria abundance showed dramatically variations on vertical and temporal in the YSCB. -
