dc.description.abstract The purpose of this study is to test the feasibility of red sea bream culture in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) with three biofilter systems, i.e. sand filter (SF), polystyrene microbead filter (MB) and Kaldnes bead filter (KB). The 25 red sea bream (mean body weight 29 g) were seleted and distributed into three RAS with different biofilter media (SF, MB and KB). Each system was duplicated. Fish were hand-fed twice a day at 08:00 and 16:00. Growth performance were measured every three weeks for 9 weeks period. The average body weight of red sea bream in SF, MB and KB during experiment periods were increased from 29 g to 47, 45 and 41 g, respectively. The SGR of fish in SF, MB and KB were 0.73, 0.68 and 0.51%/day, respectively. The FCR of fish in SF, MB and KB were 1.87, 1.94 and 2.35, respectively. Volumetric removal rate of TAN (total ammonia nitrogen) in KB (142.64 g/m3/day) was remained significantly lower than those of SF (193.83) and MB (183.94). -
