dc.description.abstract Yellow Sea Cold Water (YSCW) has an important effect on the physical features in the northern East China Sea (ECS) in summer. KORDI conducted hydrographic surveys each year from 2003 to 2009 in summer and found the interannual variations of cold water mass distributions. It is thought that the YSCW is formed by the surface cooling and the vertical mixing process which is due to the cold and dry wind in winter season. Using the data of the KORDI, KODC and KMA, the connection between previous winter temperature and the cold water mass in summer is investigated. And the relationship between winter temperature and global circulation indices such as Arctic Oscillation and winter monsoon is compared for the linkage.Based on the result, it is suggested that the dynamics related with the AO, winter monsoon and cold water mass might be able to explain the interannual variation. -
