dc.description.abstract Based on the 2007 IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) report, globalaverage temperature raised 0.74℃ during the past 100 years. In Korea, temperature roseapproximately 1-1.5℃ during the past 100 years. The atmospheric carbon dioxideconcentration of 2009 in Korea is 392.5 ppm, and the increasing rate of carbon dioxideconcentration during the last 11 years (1999-2009) is 2.2 ppm/year.The ocean temperature surrounding Korea (East Sea, Yellow Sea, and South Sea) roseapproximately 2℃ during the last 40 years. These increase in carbon dioxide concentrationsand increase in atmospheric and oceanic temperatures will significantly affect the oceanenvironment in the Yellow Sea. Coastal areas in the Yellow Sea are affected by anthropogenicinfluences, and as a result shows hypoxic environment. Currently, ecological changes areoccur approximately 40% of global oceans due to the climate changes including humaninfluences. The dissolved oxygen concentration in the coastal areas of Yellow Sea and South Sea ofKorea is less than 2ml/l. If dissolved oxygen concentration drops less than 0.5ml/l, the massmortality will occur. In Korea, the probability of 2080-2100 summers warmer than thewarmest record during the past 100 years (1900-2006) is 70-90%. Also, in Korea, frequencyof heavy rain and precipitation intensity increase during the past 40 years. These carry lots ofcarbon from the terrestrial environment into the ocean leading to the hypoxic conditions.Furthermore increasing concentrations of carbon dioxide make ocean water more acidiccausing the disruption of ecosystems surrounding in the Yellow Sea. -
