dc.description.abstract Recently research and application of GIS has been extended to various fields having ofspatial data characteristics. The GIS concept, also, has been evolved as GIScience, GIStudy and GI Service beyond traditional GISystem. Actually outstanding developments of GIS can be achieved by fusion efforts of combining other research fields. This paper presents the GIS role in marine science in several research steps from planning of monitoring sites to performing spatial analysis of marine environment and ecosystem. GIS mapping supports efficient exploratory data analysis, and quantitative spatial analysis provides new research ideas to marine scientists. -
