dc.description.abstract A several high resolution digital photos of ichthyoplankton from egg to post larvalstage have been fast acquired by focus stacking image processing tools (FSIPTs).The digital photos treated by the FSIPTs are elaborate and larger depth of field(DOF) than that of single shot photography and show almost morphological keycharacteristics for identification illustrated in the hand drawing figures. The mainmorphological characteristics are perivitelline space, developing embryo, oilglobules, yolk sack, pigments, sculptured chorion, eye, myomere, notochord, fin fold,swim bladder, head spines, fin ray, and etc. However, the color pigments recordingare rare in the hand drawing figures and single shot photography, and thearrangements of scales are rare in the hand drawing figures.The acquisition time of a single specimen digital photo from the first shooting tothe last processing is less than one hour. The processing time is only depending onthe number of images acquired at each shooting area, and computing power in spitecomplexities of morphology. This digital image processing is very fast comparing tothe hand drawing methods, which generally takes more than one day for completinga final specimen picture.The digital photographing with the FSIPTs is very easy and objective. The reasonis that the FSIPTs are using the commercial image processing software and digitalcameras and do not need long duration of training. Even if the complex structureand color pigments are in the specimens, these are not excluded in the digitalphotos based on the FSIPTs by experimenter.Our results show that the FSIPTs should be a powerful method for recording themorphological characteristics of specimen fast, elaborately, and objectively. -
