dc.description.abstract This study explores, based on ocean general circulation model experiments, that the CRD contributes to SST increase in the YECS in August. The SST increase is attributable to the formation of a CRD-induced barrier layer that tends to enhance the upper ocean stratification, and thus reduces both vertical mixing and entrainment cooling. Warm sea surface due to surface freshening by CRD would contribute to regional climate variability through air-sea interactions. For example, the SST increase can help enhance the strength of a typhoon passing over freshened area by CRD, although to what degree CRD contributes to typhoon strength is still largely unknown. -
