dc.description.abstract The ocean response to the typhoon Ewiniar 2006 and Kompasu 2010 has been investigated as well as the role of the ocean on the development of the typhoons using the Synchronized Typhoon and Ocean Research Model (STORM). STORM is a coupled ocean and tropical cyclone model based on the HYCOM and GFDL Tropical Cyclone Model for the East Asian Marginal Sea region. Since the East China Sea is the main route of the typhoons threatening KOREA, we chose resent two typhoons landed on Korea such as Ewiniar 2006 and Kompasu 2010. It is well known that the Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water (YSBCW) can be expanded to the south of Jeju Island in summer and it might be a crucial role on the typhoon development or decay. The available data observed at the Ieodo Ocean Research Station and satellite derived Sea Surface Temperature (SST) during the typhoons have been investigated to measure the oceanic response to the typhoons. A prominent feature is the surface temperature has been fallen up to 5℃ for Kompasu and about 10℃ for Ewiniar just after typhoon passed. For the reproduction of the typhoons and ocean response, STORM has been carried out changinh the coupling strategy. The uncoupled, hear flux only coupled, momentum flux only coupled and both the heat and momentum flux coupled cases have been carried out and compared each other. The simulated typhoons, unfortunately, show the track bias to the right -
