Abstract
KOOS (Korea Operational Oceanographic System) produces high-resolution nowcast and forecast ocean and coastal environmental data such as tide, current, wave, temperature, salinity, surge, sea surface wind and mean sea level pressure from both in-situ observation and numerical prediction. The ultimate goal of KOOS is to provide timely and necessary information to various users from the public to decision makers. We expect KOOS contributes to mitigate particular ocean-related disasters like oil spill, search and rescue, storm surge, and tsunami. One of key elements in KOOS is the information system which is not only data base system but a useful tool to help to understand complex data easily by intuitive and effective data exploration and manipulation throughout scientific visualization and geo-spatial analysis functionalities to users. In aspects of administrator, this system is necessary to aggregate, process, manage the vast amount and various kinds of data. Considering the characteristics of marine environmental dataset which is geo-referenced multi-dimensional and spatial-temporal, we adapt the framework of Web-GIS engine with Flex based C# web programming to visualize and analyze these huge dataset. Moreover to maximize the usability, different thematic cartography and statistical graphics with scientific visualization methods are applied to represent heterogeneous dataset and sev
