dc.description.abstract Geographic Information System (GIS) is a tool that can perform functions such as data storing, visualizing, thematic mapping, and spatial analyzing for the various information having location information on the planet. The main purpose of marine science is to develope the marine resources and to protect the ocean environment. Most of marine science data are location based data, and these data can be handled using GIS functions. This paper aims to introduce the GIS role in marine science with several research steps. GIS contributes to marine science research with spatial planning for monitoring, visualization and thematic mapping for efficient exploratory data analysis, and spatial analyzing for the promoting of research quality. -
