dc.description.abstract Korea Ocean Satellite Center(KOSC) is performing various research activities such as ocean environmental monitoring, ocean disaster management like oil spill and long-term global climate variation research based on ocean satellite application products from Geostationary Ocean Color Imager(GOCI), high-resolution Earth observation satellites, SAR satellites, and other Earth Observation satellites. KOSC as a principle operating organization formally designated by the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, organized with three divisions, satellite planning division, satellite operation division, and satellite research division in order to cover the end-to-end procedures of satellite development, operation, research, and application. GOCI, the first Korean multi-purpose satellite in geostationary orbit was launched in June 2010 with a design lifetime of 7 years, has six visible bands and two near-infrared bands for the purpose of atmospheric correction. GOCI covers the 2,500km×2,500km square centred at 36˚N and 130˚E with 500m GSD(Ground Sampling Distance), and 16(4x4) slot images construct the entire GOCI acquisition image. In addition, GOCI also has been developed to observe GOCI coverage area by every hour and planned to observe and transmit 8GOCI coverage area images per day. During the in-orbit test for 9 months, GOCI has been successfully verified the operability in geoscation products from Geostationary Ocean Color Imager(GOCI), high-resolution Earth observation satellites, SAR satellites, and other Earth Observation satellites.
