Abstract
An analytical model of double skinned composite tubular (DSCT) column was developed and parametric studies were carried out. The developed model considered the confining effect and nonlinearity of concrete. By the buckling or yielding condition of the inner tube of a DSCT column, its failure mode and concrete model were defined. The strength of concrete, the hollow ratio of the column, and the thickness of an inner tube were selected as parameters to affect the behavior of the column. The analysis result showed that concrete strength and the thickness of the inner tube affect the axial strength and moment capacity of the column while the hollow ratio affects only its axial strength. A companion paper investigates the characteristic of the DSCT column through the experiment and demonstrates the rigor and the validity of the present analytical model.ondition of the inner tube of a DSCT column, its failure mode and concrete model were defined.
