Abstract
Up to now, tidal stream generators have been developed in rotary turbine type as well as flapping-foil type. The latter one is not directly analyzed by conventional numerical schemes while the former one is. The main difference is on their kinematics: in the flapping-foil type, the large flapping motion should be considered while only uni-directional rotary motion is concerned in the turbine type. In this study, a numerical scheme is introduced for analyzing the flapping-foil type generators. Also, numerical results related to the power generation are obtained by the introduced numerical scheme in the condition of a given flapping motion and a flexure of the flapping-foil.eir kinematics: in the flapping-foil type, the large flapping motion should be considered while only uni-directional rotary motion is concerned in the turbine type.
