Abstract
A new marine nematode species in the family Draconematidae, Prochaetosoma n. sp. was described from the washing of subtidal coarse sediments at Baekdo, Korea. Prochaetosoma n. sp. differs from all the species hitherto described by the following combination of characteristics: 8 cephalic adhesion tubes in male and female, 4 cephalic adhesion tubes in fourth-stage juvenile, 3 cephalic adhesion tubes in third-stage juvenile, amphidial fovea elongated loop-shaped in male, circular unispiral in female, fourth and third-stage juvenile similar to female, 11 uniformly tapered somatic setae inserted on between the posteriormost sublateral adhesion tube and non-annulated tail end, the larger size of spicules to total body length, 10 sublateral adhesion tubes and 9 subventral adhesion tubes in male, 9-10 sublateral adhesion tubes and 14-15 subventral adhesion tubes in female, 6-7 sublateral adhesion tubes, 9 ventral adhesion tubes in fourth-stage juvenile, and 8 sublateral adhesion tubes in third-stage juvenile.
