The Korea Ocean Satellite Center is an official satellite operation center for the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager(GOCI)-I of the world’s first geostationary satellite launched in June 2010. We are in charge of the operation of satellite operation, ground management, algorithm development, and calibration and validation of satellite data. GOCI-II takes over the mission of GOCI, launched in February 2020, Development of the ground station system was completed for “receiving-processing-analysis-distribution” within 60 minutes. We have improved the algorithms and developed technology regarding the utilization of 26 basic products of GOCI-II. Also, the comprehensive satellite-based disaster monitoring system will be established using multi-satellites (focused on GOCI-I and high resolution satellites, SAR satellites).

2010년 6월 발사된 세계최초 정지궤도 위성인 천리안 해양위성 1호(GOCI)의 주관운영기관으로 위성 운영 및 지상시스템관리, 알고리즘개발, 위성자료 검보정 업무를 담당하고 있다. 2020년 2월, 1호 위성 임무를 승계할 천리안해양위성 2호가 발사되어, 60분 이내로 “수신-처리-분석-배포” 업무를 수행할 지상국시스템 개발이 완료되었으며, GOCI-II 26종의 기본산출물에 대한 알고리즘 개선 및 활용기술을 개발하고 있다. 또한, 천리안 해양관측위성 중심으로 다중위성(고해상도 위성, SAR 위성)을 활용하여 해양의 재해·재난을 감시하기 위한 시스템도 구축하고 있다.
