dc.description.abstract The reactive drain pile was newly suggested to achieve simultaneously both the soft ground improvement and the remediation of contaminated water in reclamation sites. To secure the reactive time for the reaction between reactive material and contaminants, reactive material is surrounded by impermeable cylindrical barrier which can significantly affect the consolidation rate of soft ground. In order to investigate efficiency of reactive drain pile and the applicability of furnace slag used as reactive material, testing device to simulate soft ground with reactive drain pile was developed. Using the device, the consolidation characteristics of soft ground according to the length of impermeable barrier and the efficiency of the reactive drain pile were analyzed. Test results showed that the consolidation rate is retarded according to the length of impermeable barrier but the effect of the outside vertical drain is much more significant on the consolidation rate.ial and contaminants, reactive material is surrounded by impermeable cylindrical barrier which can significantly affect the consolidation rate of soft ground.
