Abstract
To explore spatial distribution of the zooplankton community at two different latitudes, I investigated latitudinal differences in the distributional pattern of zooplankton community and the related environmental factors in the Yellow Sea where the YSBCW formed in summer 2011. Temperature, salinity, chlorophyll-a and zooplankton samples were investigated along lines from coastal (longitude 124.5 °E) to off-shore waters (longitude 125.5°E) located at two latitudes (34.5 and 36°N). Surface temperature at south latitude ranged higher than that at north latitude. The YSBCW (<10℃) was confined to the offshore stations (E01, E03) at south latitude, whereas nearly cold water (ca. 10.06℃) was limited to the offshore station (A03) at north latitude. The salinity was higher at bottom waters (33.5 to 33.7 psu) below 40m depth in offshore stations than that in coastal stations at south latitude. However, saline water (33.2 to 33.3 psu) at north latitude was limited to the bottom waters below 60m depth in offshore station (A03). Chl-a concentration at sub-surface chl-a maximum layer along the stations at south latitude ranged higher than that at north latitude during the study. The total abundance of zooplankton in surface waters (0-10m) ranged from 3,488 (A05) to 56,181 (A07) inds.m-3 at north latitude (A-line). At south latitude, total abundance of zooplankton (0-10m) ranged from 1,069 to 13,558ea where the YSBCW formed in summer 2011.
