dc.description.abstract Various remote sensing algorithms for Colored Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM) by matching in-situ CDOM measurements in the East Sea with matching MODIS remote sensing reflectance were applied to understand dynamics of CDOM in the marine environment. Data collected during seven cruises from 2009 ∼ 2011 were analyzed to test algorithms across a range of environments from coastal waters to open ocean waters. Six different CDOM algorithms were tested and compared (three semi-analytical and three empirical CDOM algorithms). In this study, the best estimate for CDOM was achieved with Quasi-Analytical Algorithms (QAA). Satellite-derived CDOM, chlorophyll-a (2003 ∼ 2010) and sea surface temperate (SST, 2003 ∼ 2010) were used to determine more detailed spatial and temporal variations in the East Sea. CDOM, chlorophyll-a concentration and SST showed clearly climatological and inter-annual variations at the whole study areas. The highest climatological of aCDOM(412) were observed during the spring and lower values occurred during the summer. Inter-annual variation of aCDOM(412) was linearly decreased and short-term linear decreasing trend of annual aCDOM(412) during 8 year was 0.08m-1. Correlation of CDOM with Chlorophyll-a and CDOM with Sea Surface Temperature showed positive (R2 = 0.592) and negative (R2 = 0.813) relationship, respectively. The results of this study supported that the environment.
