dc.description.abstract Deep circulation below 400m depth in the East/Japan Sea (EJS) was investigated by using a three-layer numerical model, and the simulated results were compared with observation (ARGO and current meter) data. The vector correlations between the simulation results and observation data were 0.60~0.68 in the entire region of the EJS, 0.66~0.90 in the northern EJS (north of 40N), and 0.45~0.59 in the southern EJS (south of 40N). The vector correlation in the north was particularly high relative to that in the south. The bi-harmonic horizontal viscosity of the momentum equation and the horizontal diffusion of the interfacial elevation of the conservation equation both had a significant effect on the simulation of deep current.
