dc.description.abstract The development of Korea Operational Oceanographic System (KOOS) has been conducted since August, 2009 to support ocean activity and to solve various problems of coastal waters of Korea. The goal of the project is to provide predicted information to the government agency and to the public to solve coastal disasters such as oil-spill accident, search and rescue (SAR), red tide, wave overtopping, inundation etc. around coast of Korea. As a part of KOOS, we have developed a down-scaled Integrated-MAritime Prediction System (I-MAPS) for the coastal waters of Korea to support the main ports prediction system of Korea. For the operation of I-MAPS, we use a high-resolution coastal modeling system with a 300 m grid size for the western ports of Incheon and Gunsan, and southern ports of Yeosu, Masan, Busan, and Ulsan. The I-MAPS which has fine grid system covering western and southern coastal waters of major ports in Korea predicts tides, wind-driven circulation, temperature and salinity, storm surge height, and wave information etc. twice a day on a 72-hour basis. The predicted results validated with real-time monitoring data are exported to the web-GIS based coastal information system which is based on the Arc-GIS engine for the real-time dissemination to the public.nformation to the government agency and to the public to solve coastal disasters such as oil-spill accident, search and rescue (SAR), red tide, wave overtopping, inundation etc. around coast of Korea.
