Redescription of Zehntneriana villosa (Zehntner, 1894)(Crustacea: Decapoda: Pilumnidae), and a new species of the rare rhizopine crab

Abstract

Zehntneriana villosa (Zehnter, 1894) was described as Ceratoplax villosa belonging to the family Goneplacidae. This species, collected from Amboina Is. in Indonesia, was only recognized by the original description until Takeda reported as a type species for establishing the genus Zehntneria Takeda, 1972. Takeda (1972), however, shows a detailed description and simple picture (dorsal view of whole animal and outer view of chelipeds). The authors examined the holotype of Zehntneriana villosa (Zehntner, 1894) and the specimens identified by Masatsune Takeda, and then found out that the specimens of Takeda (1972) differed from the holotype of Z. villosa. As a result, the specimens of Takeda (1972) is supposed as a new species. The authors, herein, are described with illustration and discussed whether the genus is valid or not because this specimen as type species of the genus Zehntneria. Moreover, Zehntneriana villosa (Zehntner, 1894) is redescribed with illustrations. as a type species for establishing the genus Zehntneria Takeda, 1972.
