dc.description.abstract Generation and evolution of the near-inertial current after the passage of two typhoons, Nari in 2007 and Roke in 2011, are examined using two-layer ocean simulations and field observations on the continental shelf of the Yellow and East China Seas. Typhoon Nari was much stronger than typhoon Roke and its wind speed was greater than 50 m/s when it passed over the shelf region. Sensitivity tests for the interfacial stress, upper-layer thickness, and bottom friction coefficient were conducted to see the near-inertial generation performance by the model. Characteristics of the near-inertial currents under the different typhoon forcings with the same ocean condition are discussed.t China Seas.
