dc.description.abstract | As an analogy for proposed climate engineering, we conducted simulations with reduced solar insolation over the high latitudes as well as over the globe using the NCAR CAM3.1 atmospheric model coupled to a slab ocean model. Changes in surface air temperature and precipitation were analyzed for annual mean and variation. Surface cooling in high latitudes increased ice fraction and surface albedo, leading to a greater deficit in radiation budget at the top of atmosphere. It resulted in an increase in poleward energy transport by the atmosphere and shifted the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone poleward in the warmer hemisphere.ce air temperature and precipitation were analyzed for annual mean and variation.
