dc.description.abstract As an analogy for proposed climate engineering, we conducted simulations with reduced solar insolation over the high latitudes as well as over the globe using the NCAR CAM3.1 atmospheric model coupled to a slab ocean model. Changes in surface air temperature and precipitation were analyzed for annual mean and variation. Surface cooling in high latitudes increased ice fraction and surface albedo, leading to a greater deficit in radiation budget at the top of atmosphere. It resulted in an increase in poleward energy transport by the atmosphere and shifted the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone poleward in the warmer hemisphere.ce air temperature and precipitation were analyzed for annual mean and variation.
